The Armour of God – a Seven Day Study

Ephesians 6:10-17

A Fight to the Finish

10-12 And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

13-18 Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon.

General Introduction

The Armour of God is one of the most often quoted passages in the Bible. In this seven-day study, we’re going to be taking a look at the purpose of the armour and then at the individual pieces of armour in turn. We’ll learn the importance of each individual piece of armour, which is symbolic of the armour worn by the Roman soldiers that the Apostle Paul was familiar with, and see that whilst the individual pieces are important, we must also remember to wear, every day, the whole armour of God.

Background

Ephesians 6:10-17 is at the end of a letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, which was in Western Asia Minor, now part of Turkey. He was writing around 60 AD, around 30 years after the death of Christ, when Ephesus, formerly a Greek city, was part of the Roman Empire.
